MELBOURNE
IS CREATIVE,
SUSTAINABLE
CITY
"Melbourne has been named 'World's Most Liveable City' for seven consecutive years (2011-2017) by the Economist Intelligence Unit, ranking No. 2 in 2018. This makes me rather proud of my address and photographic subject.
Melbourne's urban and arts strategies outline a bold, creative, sustainable cultural capital in sync with the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, including Goal 11, Sustainable Cities And Communities. I live in Melbourne and in the world. How do I play my part as artist + local/global citizen? I live and make art in certain conscious ways... I SUPPORT GOAL 11

"My URBAN MESH pictures began as casual train window observations of the Melbourne cityscape. A train or tram window view is a romantic perspective of the city I think vs the more usual ground view one gets when driving around looking (and perhaps cursing) for parking space.
I don't take for granted how my Urban Mesh concept came to me on the train. I'd travelled overseas some, but found this subject that possessed me on my Melbourne train commute. City streets - where the 'Family of Man' tends to collect - really are far from ordinary spaces for observing the theatre of life... Negotiating the metropolis by foot or public transport, on my bicycle or rollerblades has also proven the healthier (for me and the environment), more fun and creative way around town and travelling in general.
